Bucks Reviews Carl Larsson

Image

ImageCarl Larsson is another dead Swedish Painter. He did most of his work in the late 1800’s. Carl went to Paris to study and become famous, but it didn’t work out so he moved back to Sweden. He must have learned something though, because he could really paint and did about a bazillian of them.
ImageSome of his paintings are kind of weird. This one is called, Day of Celebration. Must have been one of those long, dark winter days where there was nothing to do so they got dressed up and drank a lot.

ImageLarsson also did his share of nudes, but not as many as Anders Zorn.
ImageHis paintings are kind of a cultural record of Sweden in the 1800’s. There is a nice, happy, warmth to his images of everyday life and how things were before cell phones and television. I would have loved to hang out in this carpenter’s shop.
ImageMy only complaint is that he did almost no cat paintings. He probably could not afford one because he spent all his money on brushes and canvas. If you want to see all of his work, find him on Wikipedia and click on “More Images.”

  1. Your cat photo is nice. The art is interesting. As I examine each image, I can make up all kinds of stories. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Myrah,
Larsson is one of my favorites. I know what you mean about imagining stories. I find the last one with the cat especially evocative. Who is that at the gate?

Well, Bucky, for a cat, you know a lot about artists and I really liked the samples you posted. Especially the painting of a carpenter’s shop because that is how mine looks sometimes. I would think a cat could have a lot of fun in that pile of shavings. Especially if there happened to be a mouse hiding in it.

  3. Thank you Bucks, I’ve always loved Carl Larsson… you are a very cultivated cat and I am proud to be one of your followers!!!

Hi, Bucks! Did not know you were into art. Yea, I agree there should be more cat paintings. Of course, we are delicate creatures so our portraits would take painstaking care. purr-r-r-r-r

  5. Bucks, Here is a recipe for you to try.

    Shy’s Tuna Dish – for 2-3 cats

1 can tuna in water, drain water and reserve
1/3 cup or less Cooked mix vegetables – no onions that will hurt your kidneys, if using can vegetables be sure to rinse because most canned vegetables are loaded with sodium
    Butter, can use margarine
    1 tablespoon Shredded cheese, chopped

Put tuna into a bowl, add vegetables and cheese. Mash all these together.
Melt a small amount butter or margarine and pour over mixture.

If mixture is too dry, add a little of the reserve water that was drained from the tuna. Continue adding the water until you like the texture.

By-the-way Bucks, Shy’s favorite vegetable was green beans, Abby likes potatoes and Gracie likes carrots. None of them liked corn.
